The Katsina State Government has refuted social media reports claiming that more than 60 per cent of secondary schools in the state have been closed due to insecurity.
The denial was issued on Tuesday by Sani Danjuma-Suleiman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, who described the claims as false, misleading, and not reflective of the ministry’s actual position.
He clarified that only two secondary schools have been officially closed over security concerns: Government Day Secondary School Shimfida and GDSS Gangara, both located in Jibia Local Government Area.
Several other schools, including Government Girls’ Unity College Jibia, GGSS Shena, GGSS Rimaye, and GGSS Dutsin-Safe, were temporarily relocated to W.T.C. Katsina. Danjuma-Suleiman explained that the relocations were part of a new government policy aimed at merging selected boarding schools for more efficient and effective management.
The ministry called on the public to disregard the unfounded claims circulating online.
“We remain fully committed to ensuring safety, stability, and quality education across Katsina State,” he said, adding that the ministry will continue to provide a secure, conducive, and transformative learning environment for all students.
