The Nigerian Government has inaugurated a Presidential Committee to oversee the Implementation of the Digital Public Infrastructure.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, emphasised the significance of advancing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in boosting Nigeria’s digital economy during the Committee’s inauguration in Abuja.

According to the SGF, the Committee has been entrusted with the primary responsibility of ensuring a robust, coordinated, and legally compliant implementation of DPI that aligns with Nigeria’s developmental objectives.
“DPI is crucial to unlocking new opportunities for growth, generating employment, improving public service delivery, and empowering our citizens. To realise this vision, it is essential to establish a well-coordinated and strong governance framework to guide its implementation.”
Represented by the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, the SGF tasked the Presidential Committee with working diligently to provide strategic direction and coordinate the seamless integration of DPI’s three core pillars: Digital Identity, Financial Payments, and Data Exchange, thereby fostering innovation and evidence-based decision-making in governance.
The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians through a digital public infrastructure.
“We fully acknowledge our responsibility to contribute meaningfully towards economic growth, increased citizen engagement, and an improved quality of life via DPI. NIMC pledges its full support and cooperation in this noble endeavour, and together, we shall work assiduously to ensure the successful implementation of DPI in Nigeria.”
In his presentation, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, underscored the vital importance of unifying government databases to facilitate seamless data exchange and improve the overall experience of life events for Nigerians.
The Managing Director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), Mr Premier Oiwoh, highlighted the need to assemble dedicated teams to address local challenges related to identity management and financial payments.
“NIBSS has collaborated closely with NIMC to verify National Identity Numbers and Bank Verification Numbers, ensuring secure financial transactions by linking their databases for greater efficiency.”
