India to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

India has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking the country’s return as host after more than two decades since the 2010 edition in New Delhi.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) following a vote by member nations. India’s proposal, led by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), received overwhelming support for its comprehensive plan to deliver a modern, inclusive, and sustainable Games.

The event is expected to be staged across multiple cities, with Delhi and Ahmedabad tipped as key venues for athletics and ceremonial events.

India’s Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, hailed the decision as a “historic moment” for Indian sport, pledging that the 2030 Games would “showcase India’s cultural diversity, innovation, and world-class sporting infrastructure.”

The CGF President, Chris Jenkins, commended India’s bid, describing it as “a compelling vision that aligns with the federation’s mission to strengthen the Commonwealth through sport.”

India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, which saw major infrastructure developments and record participation. The 2030 edition is expected to boost tourism, create thousands of jobs, and further solidify India’s position as a global sporting destination.

Preparations are set to begin immediately, with the Indian Olympic Association expected to unveil a full venue and infrastructure master plan in early 2026.
