The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has announced that plans have been finalised to implement reforms in the FCT transportation sector, aimed at enhancing safety and passenger comfort.
Wike made this known in Abuja on Friday following an inspection of the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals, which are scheduled for inauguration as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office. He also inspected the completed access road to Giri District, which is similarly ready for commissioning.
The minister disclosed that a series of reforms were in the pipeline, and that a dedicated committee was currently working on the framework, which is expected to be completed ahead of the terminals’ official launch.
“Clearly, significant changes are forthcoming in the FCT’s transport sector. As part of enhanced security measures, we must be able to identify individuals involved in the taxi business and establish standard vehicle colours. This will ensure quick identification if incidents arise,” Wike said.

He assured residents that the administration was committed to strengthening the capital’s transportation system and added that steps were being taken to remove informal motor parks from major roads.
Commenting on the quality of the projects, Wike expressed satisfaction but noted a few areas that required adjustments. He praised the contractor’s efforts and reaffirmed his administration’s support for competent local contractors to deliver high-quality infrastructure.
The Kugbo, Mabushi, and Central Area Bus and Taxi Terminals are part of broader efforts to overhaul the FCT’s transport system. While the Kugbo and Mabushi facilities are ready for commissioning, the Central Area terminal remains under construction.
Wike also revealed plans for two additional terminals to be constructed in Bwari and Gwagwalada.
