The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed plans to build new bus terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils as part of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in Abuja’s satellite towns.
Wike made the announcement on Saturday during an inspection of the ongoing dualisation of the Ushafa War College Check Point Road in Bwari Area Council, as well as the Abuja International Conference Centre.
The minister recalled that in 2024, the FCT Administration awarded contracts for the construction of bus and taxi terminals in Mabushi, the Central Area, and Kugbo. The terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo are now ready for commissioning, while construction in the Central Area is still underway.

He explained that the decision to extend the initiative to satellite towns was aimed at ensuring broader access to organised, secure transport services.
“We have agreed to construct a bus terminal in Gwagwalada and another in Bwari,” Wike said. “This will allow residents to travel safely into the city, whether to Mabushi, Kugbo, or the Central Area—using proper terminals.”
He added that the development would help curb the menace of “one chance” criminal operations in the city, as passengers would have safe boarding points.
Wike, however, cautioned that anyone choosing to board vehicles outside the designated terminals once they become operational would do so at their own risk, noting that the government would have fulfilled its responsibility by providing safe, structured alternatives.
