Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle expressed a blend of optimism and concern following the 2025 Unity Cup final.
While acknowledging the positive aspects of the tournament, Chelle stressed that Nigeria must make significant improvements to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in the USA.
“We made two mistakes in today’s game, so we need to improve and raise our level as a team and within our group,” he said.
“To reach the World Cup, we must step up. I can say my players have a good spirit and a positive mindset, which I am pleased about.
“We still need to work on and refine our game plan. I believe my players were focused throughout, and in the end, we deserved to win the tournament,” Chelle added.
He described the Unity Cup as his first trophy as a coach, despite having won several as a player.
Chelle expressed hope that Saturday’s victory would mark the beginning of a trophy-winning era for Nigeria.
