Silas Agara Clinches Vice Presidency in African Karate Body

Silas Agara, President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), has been elected as the 4th Vice President of the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK).

The election took place on Wednesday night during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of UFAK, held alongside the 2025 African Karate Championship at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Agara, who also holds the position of Vice President for Region 2 (West Africa), secured 20 votes to defeat his closest contender, Freddy Kombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who polled 14 votes.

Senegal’s Souleymane Gaye was elected UFAK President with 23 votes, beating Morocco’s Mohammed Mouktabil, who received 11 votes.

Tunisia’s Bechir Cherif was elected unopposed as 1st Vice President, while South Africa’s Sonny Pillar also ran unopposed and emerged as the 3rd Vice President.

Cameroon’s Bertin Dongmo was elected unopposed as General Secretary. The AGM was attended by Antonio Espinós, President of the World Karate Federation.

Thirty-one countries, including host Nigeria, are participating in the 2025 African Karate Championship, which began on 21 July and is scheduled to end on 28 July.
