The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has praised Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd. (NIGCOMSAT Ltd.) for its significant contribution to advancing national connectivity.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr Rafiu Adeladan, made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Adeladan said, “The ministry regards NIGCOMSAT, not merely as an implementing agency, but strategic partner in realising Nigeria’s aspirations in space technology, broadband access, and digital sovereignty”.

He acknowledged key concerns previously raised by the managing director, including the decade-long recruitment freeze, which had inevitably impacted innovation and operational capacity.

He, said, however, that other pressing matters include shortage of critical technical personnel, the need for support in the rollout and execution of Project 774.

Others, he said, were issues surrounding inadequate remuneration of some critical factors, adding that they were essential for attracting and retaining top-tier talent.

Adeladan reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to fostering collaboration with NIGCOMSAT to tackle those challenges. He said that some of the concerns might necessitate broad policy reviews and inter-agency coordination.

He, however, assured NIGCOMSAT Ltd. of the ministry’s commitment to exploring practical and actionable solutions within Nigeria’s regulatory and fiscal landscape.

Responding, Egerton-Idehen expressed her delight at the visit and reiterated the agency’s strategic importance.

“If other nations can reach the space, there is no reason Nigeria cannot.

“NIGCOMSAT stands ready to lead that charge; the ministry should prioritise Project 774 and address structural challenges affecting the agency’s growth and efficiency,” she said.
