As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2025 Children’s Day, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called on all tiers of government, stakeholders, and parents to prioritise the welfare, education, and protection of Nigerian children.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kogi State Chapter, Edoka Stella Laruba, made the appeal in a statement commemorating this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
She emphasised that Children’s Day should be seen not merely as a date on the calendar, but as an opportunity for sober reflection on the rights, well-being, and safety of the nation’s future leaders.

Highlighting the urgent need for deliberate and united action to tackle issues such as child abuse, child labour, out-of-school children, and all forms of violence against minors, Laruba said:
“As we celebrate our precious children today, it is imperative for us as a society to reaffirm our commitment to providing them with a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive without fear or discrimination. Every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and the freedom to dream and pursue their aspirations.”
She also called on parents and guardians to instil values of discipline, empathy, and diligence in their children, while urging the government to implement and enforce policies that safeguard children’s rights and enhance their quality of life.
“The future of our nation lies in the hands of these young ones. It is our collective responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower them. NAWOJ remains committed to championing causes that promote the welfare and rights of Nigerian children,” she added
