The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born athlete Jovan Olafioye on his official induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025.
In a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Dabiri-Erewa described Olafioye as a source of pride to Nigeria, noting that he enjoyed a distinguished career of nearly a decade in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
During his eight seasons with the BC Lions, Olafioye won the Grey Cup championship in 2011, earned multiple All-Star selections, and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2012. His leadership and consistency on the offensive line made him one of the most respected players in the league.

“This honour is not only a significant personal achievement for Olafioye but also a source of pride for Nigeria and its diaspora community worldwide,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “His induction underscores the growing influence of the Nigerian diaspora across various fields, especially international sports.”
The NiDCOM boss added that Olafioye’s success highlights the talent, resilience and determination of Nigerians making their mark globally.
“His story will inspire young Nigerians and aspiring athletes both at home and abroad, showing that hard work and perseverance can lead to recognition at the highest levels of professional sport,” she stated.
