Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich has broken the women-only half-marathon world record by one second after winning the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on Sunday.
Ngetich clocked one hour, five minutes and 15 seconds to surpass the previous record set by compatriot Peres Jepchirchir when she won the World Half Marathon title in 2020.
The 25-year-old athlete took the lead from the start on a sunny morning in the Danish capital and maintained her advantage throughout the race.
She crossed the finish line 50 seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Veronica Loleo, who finished second.

Ngetich, who also broke the women-only 10 km world record in 2025, secured another major title in Copenhagen after winning the team half marathon there and the World Cross Country Championships in January.
The overall women’s half-marathon world record remains held by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey, who ran 1:02:52 in 2021.
