Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 23 kidnapped victims, disrupted terrorist activities and arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in separate operations across Sokoto State.
The operations, carried out on Sept. 20, 2026, were disclosed in a statement issued on Sept. 21 by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja.
In Wurno Local Government Area, the troops responded to a terrorist attack on Sabon Gari after the attackers invaded the community and opened fire, forcing residents to flee.
The troops engaged the attackers and compelled them to withdraw, rescuing six kidnapped victims in the process. A civilian injured during the incident was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
In a separate operation along the Sabon Birni-Takatsaba Road near Chabe Biyu in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, the troops acted on intelligence indicating that terrorists were attempting to cross the area.

They quickly deployed and established a position along the suspected route before engaging the terrorists, who fled the area, allowing the troops to maintain control of the location.
Similarly, troops responding to a distress call about terrorist activity along the Isa-Kwanar Isa-Shinkafi Road in Isa Local Government Area confronted the attackers and forced them to retreat.
A subsequent search of the area led to the rescue of 17 kidnapped civilians. One of the rescued victims, who sustained a fracture, was taken to General Hospital, Isa, for medical treatment.
In another intelligence-led operation, troops intercepted suspected Lakurawa members allegedly moving rustled cattle from Sarma Village towards Illela.
The troops deployed to Illela Local Government Area and established a snap checkpoint along the suspected route. The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and the recovery of six cows.
The suspects and recovered livestock remain in military custody for further investigation and necessary action, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group who fled the area.
The operations form part of the ongoing intelligence-driven efforts by Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to disrupt terrorist activities, rescue kidnapped civilians and restrict the movement of terrorist elements within the Joint Operations Area.
The troops reaffirmed their commitment to sustained operations against terrorist groups and the protection of communities within their area of responsibility.
