Former National Conscience Party presidential candidate Martin Onovo has described the outcome of the Osun governorship election as a major milestone for Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking to News men on Monday, Onovo said the election showed that voters could protect their democratic rights and ensure their choices were respected.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for improvements in logistics and the transmission of results through the IReV portal, saying the changes could boost public confidence in the electoral process.
Onovo, however, condemned reports of violence and alleged threats during the election period, urging political parties and their supporters to reject violence.

He called on electoral stakeholders to build on the Osun experience by strengthening democratic institutions and protecting the integrity of the ballot.
According to INEC, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
