The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has firmly denied any involvement in drug trafficking activities, responding to recent online allegations linking the agency to illicit drug transport since the commencement of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Franklin Alao, Director of Corporate Communications at NIPOST, dismissed the report as entirely baseless.

“NIPOST plays no role in drug transportation. On the contrary, we actively collaborate with key security and regulatory agencies including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Customs Service to prevent the misuse of logistics platforms for criminal purposes,” Alao stated.

He emphasized that any licensed operator found complicit in criminal activity would face swift regulatory consequences, including possible suspension or revocation of licenses, and referral to law enforcement for prosecution.

Alao further highlighted the organization’s advanced digital infrastructure, including its Digital Postcode and Parcel Identification System, which ensures full traceability of parcels from origin to destination. He noted that the system enhances screening processes and curtails anonymity often exploited in illegal parcel shipments.

He advised the public to disregard the false report, to use only licensed courier services, and to report any suspicious activity to NIPOST or the relevant authorities.

Finally, Alao called on the media and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to remain committed to responsible reporting and to contribute meaningfully to informed public discourse and national development.
