President Bola Tinubu is set to approve another upward review of salaries for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, signalling a renewed push to strengthen troop welfare, amid evolving national security demands.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), during a one-day training and financial empowerment workshop for widows and wives of service personnel in Abuja.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to policies and strategic partnerships that improve the welfare of serving personnel and their families while sustaining operational effectiveness.
General Musa recalled that military pay rose from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000 during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, noting that further efforts have already reached an advanced stage.

He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would soon announce another salary increase as part of broader reforms aimed at recognising the sacrifices of military personnel and strengthening the Armed Forces.
Speaking on the workshop theme, ‘’Renewed Hope for Families of the Armed Forces of Nigeria Through Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development’’ the Minister stressed that a capable military depends not only on modern equipment and professional training but also on economically stable families.
He noted that empowering military households enhances troop morale, operational focus and long-term institutional resilience.
General Musa paid tribute to military spouses for sustaining personnel deployed on operational duties and honoured widows whose husbands made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Nigeria.
He described their resilience as a vital pillar supporting the nation’s security architecture and reaffirmed the Ministry’s resolve to continue implementing welfare-focused initiatives for military families.
The workshop, organised by the Federal Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), also advanced financial inclusion for military families.
During the programme, SMEDAN Director-General, Mr Charles Odii, announced the disbursement of ₦25 million to 500 widows and wives of frontline personnel to strengthen small businesses and expand entrepreneurial opportunities.
He explained that the initiative would be extended nationwide to improve financial literacy, enterprise development and economic resilience among beneficiaries.
