Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and well-being of workers as they celebrate May Day.
In his message for the 2025 International Workers’ Day, the Governor congratulated the dedicated workforce of the state, commending their resilience and contributions to the state’s progress and development.
Governor Yahaya described workers as the engine room of governance and crucial partners in the administration’s efforts to build a better Gombe.
“Today, I salute the courage, commitment, and hard work of our workers. Your efforts continue to drive the transformation of our state, and we are truly grateful for that,” he said.
He highlighted Gombe’s position as one of the first states to implement the national minimum wage, reinforcing its belief in the right of every worker to receive a fair and decent wage.
“Despite economic challenges, we have maintained the timely and regular payment of salaries, pensions, and other entitlements. We are also making concerted efforts to clear the backlog of inherited gratuities for both state and local government retirees,” the Governor added.

“I am proud of the progress we’ve made in creating safe and supportive work environments across our public institutions. We will continue to prioritise initiatives that protect the dignity, health, and productivity of our workers,” he assured.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the organised labour in the state for their cooperation and commitment to industrial harmony, which he said has been instrumental to the administration’s successes.
Acknowledging the current socio-economic difficulties in the country, he called for unity, sacrifice, and a renewed determination to face these challenges together.
“Workers are central to our economic growth and service delivery. I urge you to continue your selfless service to the state. As a government, we remain committed to ensuring that your efforts are met with fairness, respect, and support,” the Governor stated.
