The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has awarded foreign postgraduate scholarships to 200 successful candidates under its 2025 scholarship scheme.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mrs Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, formally presented the award letters to the beneficiaries during a brief ceremony held on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

She stated that the recipients were selected through a “rigorous and transparent qualification process that was devoid of political interference or external influence.”

Thompson-Wakama explained that the 200 candidates emerged successful after undergoing both a computer-based test and an oral interview.

She added that the NDDC Managing Director had commended the selection panel for conducting the process in an unbiased manner.

“I commend our panellists for their dedication and impartiality in raising the bar. This has ensured that only the most qualified candidates got selected,” the statement quoted Dr Ogbuku as saying.

The managing director also urged the scholarship beneficiaries to uphold the country’s reputation during their time abroad.

“I urge the beneficiaries to steer clear of criminal activities or any conduct that can bring disrepute to the country,” he added.

Over 30,000 candidates applied for the scholarship, with approximately 6,000 advancing to the computer-based test stage.
