Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the ongoing construction of three modern bus terminals as a critical intervention aimed at overhauling Abuja’s transportation system.
The Minister made the remarks on Tuesday during an inspection tour of two of the three bus terminals currently under construction, as well as the access road project leading to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Daki-Biyu.
It will be recalled that the Wike-led FCT Administration, in 2024, awarded contracts for the construction of bus and taxi terminals in Mabushi, Central Area, and Kugbo.
Speaking after inspecting the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and praised the contractors for delivering quality infrastructure.
“We are happy that we are providing this kind of infrastructure,” he said. “You will agree with me that bus terminals are a basic intervention necessary to reform our transport system. We’re quite impressed with what we have seen, and we commend the contractors for a job well done.”
He assured that the projects would be completed within the stipulated timeline, adding that their completion would bring much-needed order and security to urban mobility in the FCT.

According to the Minister, the new terminals will not only streamline public transportation but also help combat the menace of ‘one chance’—a criminal tactic where perpetrators pose as drivers to rob unsuspecting passengers.
“The idea is to move commuters off the roadside and into organised terminals where they can safely board buses and taxis,” he explained. “This will help ensure public safety while also preventing unauthorised use of roadsides as motor parks.”
On the road project in Daki-Biyu, Wike expressed optimism that it would be among the infrastructural projects lined up for commissioning to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering first-class infrastructure that meets the expectations of FCT residents.
“The government of President Bola Tinubu is resolute in its mission to provide quality infrastructure that will improve the lives of our people,” Wike stated.
