Investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) traded 3.932 billion shares valued at ₦74.813 billion across 105,220 deals during the week. This marks a notable increase from the 2.606 billion shares worth ₦63.785 billion exchanged in 77,593 transactions the previous week.
As a result, the value of trades rose by 17.3 per cent week-on-week.
The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 2.405 billion shares worth ₦32.271 billion traded in 44,570 deals, contributing 61.16 per cent and 43.14 per cent to the total volume and value, respectively.
It was followed by the Services sector with 442.995 million shares worth ₦4.201 billion across 7,523 deals. The Consumer Goods sector ranked third, with a turnover of 283.157 million shares valued at ₦12.678 billion in 15,675 transactions.
Top equities for the week were Royal Exchange Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, and Tantaliser Plc, jointly accounting for 1.610 billion shares worth ₦8.897 billion in 8,079 deals—representing 40.95 per cent of total volume and 11.89 per cent of value.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.62 per cent to close at 109,028.62, while market capitalisation dipped by 0.29 per cent to ₦68.752 trillion.
Most indices ended the week lower, except for NGX Insurance (+0.73%), NGX AFR Dividend Yield (+0.11%), NGX Consumer Goods (+2.18%), and NGX Industrial Goods (+0.72%). The NGX ASeM Index closed flat.

In terms of price movements, 52 equities appreciated, down from 61 the previous week. Meanwhile, 41 equities recorded losses, up from 31, while 55 remained unchanged, slightly down from 56.

Market Updates:
On Thursday, 22 May, 229,316 units of Chapel Hill Denham Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF) were listed on NGX following the Fund’s Q1 2025 scrip dividend. With this addition, total listed units now stand at 1,055,744,147.
Also, on Friday, 23 May, United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) listed an additional 6,839,884,274 ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each at ₦35.00 per share. The shares arose from its Rights Issue, raising UBA’s total issued and fully paid-up shares from 34,199,421,368 to 41,039,305,642.
