Tour Operators Urges Stronger Collaboration to Boost Nigerian Tourism

The Tour Operators International Conference and Expo (TOICE) has called for greater collaboration across Nigeria’s tourism industry to enhance the visibility and viability of the country’s tourism offerings, both locally and internationally.

The Convener of TOICE and Managing Director of Getittome Travels, Mr Ibrahim Makanjuola, made the call in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos.

While commending the National Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) for its recently concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ondo State, Makanjuola described the gathering as both unifying and forward-thinking.

“The event brought together leading voices in the Nigerian tourism sector and once again reinforced the power of unity, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative growth among tour operators,” he said.

He stressed that the future of Nigerian tourism would depend on the extent to which stakeholders including government institutions, tour operators, industry associations, and private sector actors work collectively to develop the sector.

Makanjuola emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue among stakeholders as a means of addressing challenges and unlocking the full potential of the tourism industry.

He added that strong partnerships between the public and private sectors would not only promote cultural heritage and stimulate local economies but also increase Nigeria’s appeal to domestic and international tourists.

The TOICE convener also praised the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his hospitality and support during the AGM, noting that his active involvement created an enabling environment for the success of the event.

“The success of the AGM in Ondo is a testament to the great potential that lies within tourism-friendly governance,” he stated.

He encouraged other states to emulate Ondo by supporting tourism-related events and policies that promote their unique local attractions.

Makanjuola reaffirmed TOICE’s commitment to empowering tour operators through education, stakeholder engagement, and professional development, aimed at building a more connected and competitive tourism industry in Nigeria.

He added that TOICE remained open to collaboration with state governments, tourism boards, private sector stakeholders, and non-governmental organisations in advancing Nigeria’s tourism potential.
