President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending Tunde Onakoya’s journey in chess, has announced that the Federal Government will collaborate with the Chess Guinness World Record holder to expand his ‘Chess in Slums Africa’ initiative across the country, in order to empower more children and young people.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) via his official handle @OfficialABAT on Monday, the President praised Onakoya’s transformative work with disadvantaged children, noting that his vision aligns with the administration’s “no child left behind, no talent wasted” agenda.

Speaking after receiving Onakoya at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos State, the President commended Okoya’s journey from the streets of Lagos to global recognition. He described Tunde’s resilience and achievements as a true reflection of the extraordinary potential and spirit of Nigerian youth.
”Through chess, he opens minds and transforms lives in communities that are too often overlooked. I would love to see how his work can be replicated nationwide and I am looking forward to seeing him in Abuja to hear how the government can support him”
