Tottenham Hotspur have completed the permanent signing of French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, following a successful loan spell during the second half of the 2024/25 season.
The 20-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Spurs, which runs until 2031. Though the clubs have not disclosed the transfer fee, reports suggest the deal is valued at approximately £30 million (€35 million).
Tel joined Bayern from Rennes in 2022 and went on to make 83 appearances for the German giants, scoring 16 goals. However, limited playing opportunities led to his loan move to Tottenham in February 2025.
During his brief stint in North London, Tel made an immediate impact, scoring three goals in 20 appearances. His contributions were instrumental in Spurs’ UEFA Europa League triumph their first major silverware in 17 yearsn which was secured with a 1–0 victory over Manchester United in the final.

In a statement, Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl acknowledged Tel’s departure, saying:
“Mathys Tel came to FC Bayern as a very young player and developed well here. He was a popular figure in the squad, who always gave his all. The move to Tottenham has turned out to be the right one for his development. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Tottenham, under new head coach Thomas Frank, confirmed the signing via their official channels, stating:
“We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from FC Bayern. The France Under-21 international will join us on a contract running until 2031.”
Tel made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Liverpool and scored his first league goal in April’s 3–1 win over Southampton. He also found the net in the FA Cup and featured prominently in Tottenham’s European campaign.
The forward is currently representing France at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia.
This move marks the first permanent signing of the Thomas Frank era at Tottenham as the club looks to build on the momentum of a promising season.
