Team Ogun emerged victorious in the 4×400 mixed relay at the ongoing National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games 2024,” on Friday. The winning team comprised Gafar Badmus, Tosin Adeloye, Samson Nathaniel, and Toheebat Jimoh.

Team’s coach, Saheed Akinpelu, praised the athletes for their outstanding performance. He attributed their success to dedication and hard work, noting that the state government supported the team by organising a training camp.

“At the same time, I am appealing to the government; if we had spent around three months in camp, we could have performed even better,” he said.

“We employed all our strategies to overcome strong contenders such as Bayelsa, Delta, and other competitive states. Our athletes are disciplined and responsive to instructions.

“That shows the positive spirit within the camp. I am thrilled we started the day with a gold medal in the walking race and have now added gold in the relay. It is a fantastic achievement and a great result for us,” he added.

He expressed confidence that the state would secure more gold medals, emphasising that the athletes had trained hard and prayed for success.

Edo and Lagos secured second and third places respectively.
