2025 Ballon d’Or: Madugu, Nnadozie Nominated

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, and star goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, have been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or’s Johan Cruyff Trophy and Yachine Trophy, respectively.

The Johan Cruyff Trophy is awarded to the world’s best coach in women’s football, while the Yachine Trophy recognises the top female goalkeeper globally.

Madugu’s nomination follows his remarkable leadership at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where he guided Nigeria to a record-extending 10th title. In the dramatic final held in Rabat, Morocco, the Super Falcons staged a stunning comeback from 2–0 down to defeat the host nation 3–2 — a historic and emotional win for the team.

Throughout the tournament, Madugu’s squad remained unbeaten, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three across six matches. Their only draw came in a goalless encounter with Algeria.

Joining Madugu on the shortlist are Brazil’s Arthur Elias, Arsenal Women’s Renee Slegers, England’s Sarina Wiegman, and Chelsea Women’s Sonia Bompastor.

Meanwhile, Chiamaka Nnadozie also earned her nomination after a standout WAFCON performance, where she claimed the Best Goalkeeper award and was named in the Team of the Tournament. Her consistent brilliance between the posts was key to Nigeria’s success.

Nnadozie’s fellow nominees for the Yachine Trophy include Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC), Cata Coll (Barcelona Femeni), Hannah Hampton (Chelsea Women), and Daphne van Domselaar (Arsenal Women).
