Senegal has announced that it has produced and sold 3.8 million barrels of crude oil from the Sangomar offshore field since production began in early 2025.
The Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines disclosed that the output was achieved through four successful international shipments—designated SAN027, SAN028, SAN029, and SAN030, marking a major milestone in the country’s oil and gas sector.
Operated by Australia’s Woodside Energy, the Sangomar field is located approximately 100 kilometres off the coast of Dakar. Production at the site commenced in June 2024, and authorities project a total output of 30.53 million barrels of oil in 2025, maintaining a steady production rate of around 100,000 barrels per day.

Beyond crude oil, Senegal has also made significant strides in natural gas production. The Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) project developed in collaboration with BP, Kosmos Energy, and the national oil companies of Senegal and Mauritania exported its first LNG cargo on 15 April 2025. The shipment carried 163,259 cubic metres of LNG, signalling a key advancement in the country’s gas export ambitions.
These developments underscore Senegal’s emergence as a significant player in the global energy market.
