The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly, have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Akpabio proposed the endorsement, which was supported by Speaker Abbas, demonstrating unity within the ruling party’s National Assembly caucus behind President Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

At the APC National Summit held on Thursday at the Banquet Hall, Akpabio praised President Tinubu for steering Nigeria towards economic growth, a progress recognised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

We are not issuing a notice of impeachment but acknowledging the difficulties faced in 2023. For 2027, I foresee a turnaround, with even more states rallying to support you.

“Given President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political wisdom, his success in setting Nigeria on a growth trajectory as confirmed by the IMF, the enthusiasm of Nigerians at the grassroots, and the satisfaction expressed by members of the National Assembly, I call on the leadership of the National Assembly, all distinguished senators, members, and speakers of Houses of Assembly to join me.

“I move that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu be recognised not only as the sole APC candidate but as the sole candidate for the entire Nigerian populace in 2027, since all other parties have been fragmented.”

Akpabio stated that Nigerians are proud of the progress achieved during Tinubu’s two years in office, which underpins the call for his re-election.

“Nigerians believe that, having done a difficult job well, he deserves to be rewarded with a second term as President in 2027.

“Therefore, I move, as Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that Mr President be returned as the APC’s unopposed candidate and as the next President of Nigeria for a second term.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, endorsed the motion moved by Senate President Akpabio in support of President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

“I stand on behalf of 109 senators, 360 members of the House of Representatives, and all 36 Speakers and their members to second this important motion by the Senate President,” he said.
