Dr Joseph Kigbu, newly appointed Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) representing Nasarawa State, has donated a classroom block valued at ₦55 million to the Barki Abdullahi (BAD) community in Lafia Local Government Area.

Kigbu officially commissioned and handed over the facility to the government on Friday at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Primary School in Barki Abdullahi.

He stated that the gesture was a way of giving back to the community that played a pivotal role in his development and success.

A former member of the House of Representatives for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Kigbu was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu as NPC Commissioner for Nasarawa State, though he is yet to assume office.

He explained that the building comprises three classrooms and an office, all connected to both solar energy and the national power grid.

“This is the school I attended. Since God has blessed us, it is only right to support the school and enhance its learning environment,” he said.

“Pupils in rural areas should not have to attend schools in cities to benefit from basic infrastructure like electricity.”

Kigbu affirmed his lifelong commitment to public service, both within and outside political office.

“Even before I was elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, I had established a medical forum providing free healthcare services to underprivileged residents across the state,” he said.

“During my time in office, I ensured impactful projects and empowerment initiatives across every part of my constituency. That commitment continues today, as the free medical outreach still runs across the state and beyond.”

He also revealed the completion of a multi-billion naira hospital in Azuba, Lafia, designed to serve the underprivileged.

“The hospital is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and is scheduled to commence operations in September 2025,” he said. “It will offer free services, God willing.”

Dr Kigbu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule for his appointment and announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Receiving the project on behalf of the state government, Governor Sule, represented by Mohammed Sani-Bala, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, thanked Kigbu for the generous donation.

He described the initiative as a significant contribution that would support the government’s efforts in delivering quality education.

Similarly, Dr Aliyu Bello, Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), commended Kigbu’s philanthropic efforts, congratulated him on his appointment, and urged other leaders to emulate his example.
