The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a scheduled shutdown for maintenance, beginning on 24 May 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, the company stated that the exercise is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment aimed at ensuring the facility operates at optimal efficiency.
“The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will be temporarily shut down for a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment starting 24 May 2025,” the statement read.

NNPC Ltd assured the public that it is working in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the process is conducted transparently and efficiently.
The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring sustainable energy security and added that further updates will be made available through its official communication channels, including its website and media platforms.
This marks another shutdown of the refinery, which was temporarily closed in December 2024, just months after resuming operations following a $1.5 billion rehabilitation.
