The inaugural group of 1,874 Nigerian pilgrims has commenced their journey from Madinah to Makkah, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s participation in the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

The pilgrims, who represent various states including Imo, Bauchi, Kebbi, Osun, and Kogi, spent four days in Madinah for prayers and spiritual preparation before setting off on their sacred journey to Makkah.

As they make their way, the pilgrims will stop at Miqat Dhul Hulaifa, where they will enter the state of ihram, a spiritual condition of ritual purity that signifies their formal intention to perform Hajj. Upon their arrival in Makkah, they are expected to perform Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage, which precedes the core rites of Hajj.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is closely coordinating logistics to ensure a seamless transition for the pilgrims, with the distribution of Nusuk cards already underway. The Nusuk card, a mandatory identification, grants pilgrims access to Makkah and other key holy sites during their pilgrimage.

To date, NAHCON has airlifted 12,160 Nigerians for the 2025 Hajj, comprising 171 males and 141 females, ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims are well-prepared for their journey to the holy cities.
