Nigeria Moves to Promote Economic, Tourism Potential

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting the country’s economic, cultural, and tourism potential to the global community through a national compendium showcasing opportunities across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Idris gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Press Council (NPC), led by its Executive Secretary, Dili Ezughah, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

The delegation was in Abuja to brief the minister on preparations for the official launch of the publication, scheduled for 17 June 2026 at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking during the meeting, Idris described the initiative as a strategic national project designed to reposition Nigeria positively and highlight its vast investment and tourism opportunities.

He said the compendium would help counter negative perceptions about the country by showcasing economic strengths and untapped opportunities across the federation.

The minister noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in economic diversification, tourism development, investment promotion, and expansion of the non-oil sector.

He stressed that Nigeria is richly endowed beyond oil, adding that culture, tourism, and creative industries remain key drivers of national growth.

Idris commended the collaboration between the Nigerian Press Council, the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, and other stakeholders involved in the project.

According to him, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to partnership-driven development and credible information sharing with investors and the international community.

He added that increasing global interest in Nigeria’s non-oil sector shows that ongoing reforms are yielding positive results.

Idris also assured the delegation of the ministry’s full support for the successful launch of the publication, while commending Vice President Kashim Shettima for backing the project.

Earlier, NPC Executive Secretary Dr Ezughah said the project was developed through inter-agency collaboration aimed at projecting Nigeria positively on the global stage.

He explained that the publication would serve as a reference guide for investors, diplomatic missions, development partners, and Nigerians in the diaspora.

Lead Consultant Tajudeen Toyin-Oke said the compendium provides detailed profiles of all states, including investment opportunities, tourism assets, mineral resources, and infrastructure data.

Director-General of NTDA Ola Awakan described the initiative as a major step in promoting Nigeria’s tourism and cultural heritage globally.

The publication’s foreword is expected to be written by President Tinubu, while Vice President Shettima will author the preface.

The official launch is expected to attract governors, diplomats, investors, and development partners from across Nigeria and beyond.
