The Federal Government has issued a travel advisory to Nigerians living in the Islamic Republic of Iran and several Gulf states following the escalation of military hostilities in the Middle East.
In a statement released by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Government said it is closely tracking developments in the region amid reports of military strikes involving Israel and the United States on targets in Iran, as well as retaliatory actions reportedly carried out by Iran in parts of the Gulf.
Describing the situation as fluid and potentially volatile, the Ministry urged Nigerian nationals in the affected countries to exercise heightened vigilance and take proactive steps to safeguard their personal security.
The advisory cautioned citizens to avoid locations that may be considered sensitive or strategic, including military bases and government facilities, as such sites could become targets. Nigerians were also advised to minimise non-essential travel and refrain from attending large public gatherings or demonstrations until conditions improve.
The Government further urged citizens to comply fully with safety directives issued by host authorities, noting that cooperation with local law enforcement and emergency services is essential during periods of uncertainty.

In addition, Nigerians were encouraged to stay informed through credible local and international media outlets, while relying primarily on official communications from diplomatic missions to avoid misinformation.
The Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, alongside missions in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, has been placed on heightened alert to provide necessary consular support and maintain open lines of communication with Nigerian nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the protection of Nigerians abroad remains a priority and pledged to continue monitoring the situation closely. It also called on all parties involved in the conflict to pursue restraint and dialogue in the interest of regional stability and global peace.
