In a bid to enhance the skills of emerging and mid-career Nigerian scriptwriters, the National Theatre Nigeria, in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Theatre503, is set to host an intensive “Advanced Scriptwriting Masterclass Series.”

A statement sent to Saturday Beats outlined, “This initiative is part of the National Theatre’s renewed commitment to capacity building within the creative sector, aligning directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s focus on youth empowerment, talent development, and economic diversification through the creative economy.”

This well-structured programme will feature three impactful online classes, each focusing on key aspects of scriptwriting: plot development, character arcs, and dialogue crafting. The classes will also delve into specialised forms of storytelling, including Writing from History, Autobiography, Play Adaptation, and adapting literature for the stage.

Tola Akerele, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the National Theatre, underscored the institution’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s human capital development goals. She stated, “This partnership is one of many steps we are taking to ensure that Nigerian creatives are not only seen but also heard on the global stage. We are investing in people, and that is the essence of true national development.”

Participants will be chosen through a competitive application process and must have basic scriptwriting skills.
