American R&B star Chris Brown has been remanded in custody by a UK court following serious assault charges. The 36-year-old singer appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16 after being arrested in connection with an alleged attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.
Prosecutors say Brown struck Diaw multiple times with a bottle before punching and kicking him, causing severe injuries. The incident reportedly was captured on CCTV footage, and Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit seeking ÂŁ12 million in damages, citing lasting physical and emotional harm.
District Judge Joanne Hirst deemed the charges too serious for the magistrates’ court and referred the case to Southwark Crown Court in London. Brown was denied bail and will remain in custody until his next court hearing on June 13.

Brown’s arrest came shortly after his arrival in the UK ahead of his scheduled “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, set to begin in Amsterdam on June 8. The legal proceedings now cast doubt on the tour’s future.
This case adds to Brown’s previous legal troubles, including a felony assault conviction in 2009 involving his former partner Rihanna.
The court process continues as Brown awaits further trial proceedings in London.
