The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, unanimously passed two bills into law during plenary in Lafia.
The first is A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme Edict No. 13 of 1997 and to Establish the Nasarawa State Agricultural Development Programme and for Other Matters Connected Therewith. The second is A Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Inland Waterways Regulation Agency, aimed at regulating the carriage of persons and goods across all rivers and waterways within the state.
Speaker of the House, Dr Danladi Jatau, who announced the passage of the bills, said the agricultural development bill, if assented to by the governor, would enhance food security, boost revenue, create employment, and improve the living standards of citizens. He added that it would also fast-track development in the agricultural sector.

On the Inland Waterways bill, Jatau stated that it would provide a legal framework for regulating water transport within the state, ensuring safety, generating revenue, and creating job opportunities.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to prepare clean copies of the bills for submission to Governor Abdullahi Sule for assent.
“The Clerk is hereby directed to produce clean copies of the bills for my review before forwarding them to His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, for assent,” he said.
He commended members for their meaningful contributions during the debate on both bills, which he said would have a direct impact on the lives of the people of Nasarawa State.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Suleiman Azara, moved motions for the bills to be read a third time, which were seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Luka Zhekaba.
