APC Moves to End Anambra Leadership Crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a fresh reconciliation effort to resolve the leadership crisis in its Anambra State chapter, with party leaders urging members to put aside differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders engagement in Abuja, the Chairman of the APC Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee and National Deputy Chairman (South), Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, said the exercise was aimed at healing divisions and rebuilding confidence within the party.

“We gather today not merely to discuss a dispute, but to heal a family; not merely to review a crisis, but to restore confidence,” Nwoye said.

He identified the major issues fueling the crisis as the alleged removal of elected party officials, disputes over primary election outcomes and candidate substitutions, litigation without exhausting internal dispute-resolution mechanisms, and expulsions carried out without fair hearing.

According to him, peace is critical to the party’s electoral fortunes, warning that a divided APC would struggle to compete effectively in future elections.

Nwoye warned that while the party remained committed to peace and reconciliation, the national leadership would not hesitate to sanction members whose actions undermine party unity.

“The national leadership of our great party will not hesitate to wield the big stick against any recalcitrant member who persists in conduct capable of undermining party unity,” he warned.

He said the committee would recommend measures aimed at restoring confidence, strengthening party structures and preparing the Anambra chapter for future electoral contests.

Adding his voice, APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Tolu Bankole, urged stakeholders to embrace reconciliation and avoid a repeat of the mistakes that cost the party victory in the last Anambra governorship election.

“We cannot afford to repeat what happened in the last election,” Bankole said. “Had we all rallied round Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu after his emergence, perhaps we would not be here discussing these issues today.”

He warned that with the 2027 elections fast approaching, continued division could further weaken the party’s prospects in the state.

“Anambra has good people, intelligent people, brilliant people and many millionaires, yet we cannot deliver the state. Something is fundamentally wrong,” he stated.

Bankole appealed to party members to place collective success above personal ambitions.

“We cannot all win at the same time. Let us embrace teamwork, support one another and rally behind the leadership. I know it is not difficult for all of you to deliver Anambra for the APC.”

Also speaking, APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Mary Idele, said the gathering was not about assigning blame but finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

“We are not here to judge who is right or wrong. We are here to listen, find a way forward and resolve this matter,” she said.

Alile stressed that reconciliation should not be mistaken for weakness, noting that wisdom and dialogue were necessary for the party to move forward.

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. This is not the time to fight; this is the time to pursue peace and work together,” she added.

She further urged members to focus on the larger goal of strengthening the APC and delivering victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
