At least 37 people have died in flash floods triggered by torrential rains on Sunday in Morocco’s Atlantic coastal province of Safi, around 330 kilometres south of the capital, Rabat, state-run 2M TV reported on Monday.
Authorities said 14 people were receiving medical treatment following the floods, which caused widespread destruction and swept through communities across the province.
Local officials warned residents to remain vigilant as rivers and low-lying areas remain at risk following continued heavy rainfall.
The floods come amid extreme weather events in Morocco and the wider region, which experts link to climate change and unusual seasonal storms.
