Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford, cutting the gap on leaders Arsenal to two points with three matches remaining.
After a tense first half marked by penalty and red-card appeals, City took control after the break through goals from Jérémy Doku, Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush.
Doku broke the deadlock on the hour mark with a curling effort into the top corner after cutting in from the left flank.
Haaland doubled City’s advantage in the 75th minute, reacting quickest inside the box to back-heel the ball into the net for his 26th league goal of the season.
Marmoush sealed the victory deep into stoppage time, collecting a pass from Haaland before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.
Despite the win, City manager Pep Guardiola said the title race remains out of his side’s control.
“We’ll see. The title race is not in our hands. We will do our job. We didn’t do perfectly at Everton. It was tough. Wednesday, we host Crystal Palace, another team set to play a European final. We just do our job and wait.”
The result moved Manchester City to 74 points from 35 matches, while Brentford’s defeat dented their hopes of securing European football next season.
