Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has died in a fiery car crash near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, along with his brother, Spanish state-owned TV station RTVE reported on Thursday, citing local firefighters.

Police told Reuters that all indications supported the report, although they could not yet officially confirm the identities of the victims.

The regional fire department of Castile and LeĂłn, where Zamora is located, stated on its website that a car crashed shortly after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames. Two men, aged 28 and 26, were found dead at the scene.

Jota, who got married on June 28, helped Liverpool win the Premier League last season, and also lifted both the FA Cup and League Cup with the Merseyside club.

He joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and scored 65 goals in 182 appearances across all competitions, helping the team win the Premier League (2024–25), FA Cup (2021–22), and EFL/League Cup (2021–22, 2023–24)

Jota also earned 49 caps for Portugal, winning the UEFA Nations League twice with the national team.
