Abuja City Marathon Secures Prestigious World Athletics Label

In a landmark achievement for Nigerian athletics, the Abuja City International Half Marathon has been officially awarded the prestigious World Athletics Label for its second edition.

This recognition makes it the first marathon globally to attain the label so swiftly, highlighting the exceptional organisational standards of Nilayo Sports Management Limited and its major partner, PremiumTrust Bank.

The second edition of the race is scheduled for Saturday, 6 December 2025, and promises to light up the Federal Capital Territory with a vibrant display of endurance, athleticism, and community spirit.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of PremiumTrust Bank, Emmanuel Efe Emefienim (CON), described the milestone as a validation of the bank’s strategic investment in sports.

“Attaining World Athletics Label status in just the second year validates that our investment is yielding world-class outcomes,” Emefienim said.

“We are deeply proud to be the sole partner building this monumental legacy, reinforcing our commitment to sports development, community wellbeing, excellence, and platforms where champions are made.”

Themed “Steady Strides,” this year’s marathon embodies the discipline, rhythm, and determination that define world-class long-distance running. It reflects the organisers’ vision of transforming the event into a globally recognised, platinum-labelled race.

The 2025 edition is expected to attract elite international athletes, top Nigerian runners, and marathon enthusiasts from across the world. Officials from World Athletics will also be on hand to oversee the competition, further cementing its place on the global racing calendar.

Organisers said the event will celebrate endurance, athletic excellence, and community unity, as registration for participants is now open ahead of the highly anticipated race on 6 December 2025.
