Lagos Unveils Tourism Support Platform for Ember Months

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC) has unveiled the Lagos Tourism Support Services Platform to strengthen safety, emergency preparedness, and cleanliness during the Ember Months.

Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the ministry, Mrs Adeoti Sobowale, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

She explained that the initiative was designed to ensure a safe, secure, and enjoyable tourism experience throughout the festive season.

The platform was formally launched on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Idris Aregbe, in collaboration with several government agencies.

Participating agencies include the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LSNSA), and Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). Others are the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Aregbe said the initiative aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which seeks to create an enabling environment for businesses while positioning Lagos as a safe, clean, and tourism-friendly destination.

He noted that the ember months are typically a period of heightened activity, requiring close inter-agency collaboration to guarantee public safety, efficient crowd control, and swift emergency response.

“Ember months come with heightened activities in the hospitality and entertainment space. All hands must be on deck to ensure Lagos remains safe, secure, and clean for both residents and tourists,” Aregbe said.

Director-General of the LSSC, Mr Lanre Mojola, added that increased human and vehicular traffic during the ember months calls for stronger safety protocols and crowd management. He said the commission would step up inspections of event centres, hotels, and entertainment venues to enforce compliance with safety standards.

The Permanent Secretary of MTAC, Mr Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, noted that the initiative would safeguard lives and property while boosting investor confidence in Lagos as a top destination for leisure and business.

Similarly, the General Manager of the LSNSA, Dr Ifalade Oyekan, pledged the agency’s support through intelligence-led security operations and enhanced surveillance of tourism corridors and event hotspots to prevent security breaches.
