The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Transportation, on Saturday, launched an eco-friendly campaign aimed at reducing vehicle emissions and promoting clean energy.
The campaign, which featured a road show, seeks to raise awareness among residents about the benefits of sustainable energy solutions.
The initiative, titled ‘EcoMove Lagos 2025,’ is a week-long campaign designed to advance sustainable transportation and environmental responsibility across the state. The campaign is driven by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, with the theme: “EcoMove: Connecting Communities, Reducing Emissions, The Role of Public Transportation in Achieving Sustainable Goals.”
The road show began in Oshodi and covered key areas including Mushin, Ojuelegba, Yaba, Oyingbo, CMS, Ikoyi, and concluded at Lekki Phase One.
During the event, Mr Toyin Aremu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, expressed the significance of the initiative, which is the first of its kind. He stated that it is being executed under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and powered by the Ministry of Transportation.
“This initiative is aimed at promoting an eco-friendly environment. As a government, we prioritise the health and well-being of Lagos residents,” Aremu explained.
“This is why we launched this initiative, to shed light on how the public can support the government’s efforts toward a cleaner environment.”
Aremu also highlighted that the campaign supports the Federal Government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, which is designed to reduce vehicle emissions. He encouraged the promotion of electric vehicles and CNG to achieve zero emissions in the state, which would benefit Lagos residents by improving health and reducing costs.
“My advice to drivers and other stakeholders in the transportation sector is to collaborate in this effort. There is a need to engage the public on how to better promote environmental sustainability. Drivers are also encouraged to pick up passengers only at designated parks and to prioritise safety by obeying traffic regulations,” he added.
The Senior Special Assistant further revealed that the campaign would be a continuous effort, with future initiatives planned. At Ojuelegba under-bridge, he took the opportunity to commend traffic officers, including those from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Vehicle Inspection Service, and the Nigeria Police, for their dedication to creating an eco-friendly environment in Lagos.
Aremu urged residents to make use of government-owned modes of transportation, which would contribute to an eco-friendly environment and help reduce traffic congestion.
“The government cannot achieve this goal alone; we need the support of all Lagos residents, drivers, conductors, mechanics, and professionals to reduce vehicle emissions and promote environmental safety,” he concluded
