Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 74 stranded members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.

According to a military statement, the incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday when the corps members’ vehicles broke down near a forested area known as a Boko Haram crossing point.

Troops monitoring the route through a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system detected unusual movement involving three buses and immediately deployed a patrol team to the location.

Upon arrival, the soldiers found 74 corps members 36 males and 38 females stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The troops promptly secured the area and successfully rescued all the corps members, preventing a possible abduction by terrorists active in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the corps members had earlier been escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of the 7 Division Garrison but continued their journey to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or seeking a fresh security escort.

The rescued corps members have been safely evacuated to the Buratai Military Base, where they are being accommodated pending arrangements for their onward movement.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, maintaining robust security presence across the region to deny terrorists freedom of operation and ensure lasting peace in the North East.

The statement urged the public to continue cooperating with security forces engaged in protecting lives and maintaining peace across the country.
