The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Area Command, has hosted students of Government Girls’ College Senior, Katsina, as part of a youth engagement initiative designed to promote patriotism, discipline, and awareness of national service among young Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I. Bello Isah, the event held on 5 November 2025 at the Command’s Conference Hall featured an interactive session aimed at deepening the students’ understanding of Customs operations, including national security, revenue generation, and trade facilitation.
Addressing the students, the Area Controller, Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, said early mentorship plays a key role in shaping responsible and patriotic future leaders.
“The Nigeria Customs Service recognizes that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. By engaging them early, we hope to instil values of discipline, honesty, and commitment to national development,” he said.
The visit included a guided tour of major Customs departments, such as the operations office, government warehouse, Customs Intelligence Unit, valuation section, ICT facility, and correspondence registry.
Officials briefed the students on clearance procedures, anti-smuggling operations, and the agency’s role in safeguarding national borders.
One of the students, Amina Garba, described the visit as enlightening, saying, “I never knew Customs officers did so much beyond collecting duties. I now see them as heroes protecting our country’s economy.”
Supervising teachers praised the Command for engaging with young people, noting that the experience would motivate students to pursue careers in public service.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such outreach programmes and deepening collaboration with educational institutions in line with national development objectives.
