Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that the state’s new transport system will begin operations before the end of July.
He made the disclosure during the “Promise Kept Carnival”, organised by the Aba Business Community and Landlords’ Association to celebrate the completion of the Port Harcourt Road reconstruction in Aba.
Governor Otti stated that the initial phase of the transport initiative would see the deployment of 20 electric buses alongside the completion of modern bus terminals at strategic locations. He noted that construction of the terminals was progressing rapidly.
He described the transport project as part of his administration’s broader vision to modernise public infrastructure and promote clean energy solutions in the state.
“In not more than two months, our transport system will become operational. If you move around, you will see the bus terminals under construction,” he said.
The governor also emphasised that the electric buses had already been fully paid for and described them as world-class, comparable to international standards.
The Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, Mr Emmanuel Emeruwa, commended the government’s progressive programmes and assured that the legislature would continue to support the administration’s rebuilding agenda.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief John Udegbala, stated that the Aba business community and landlords’ association had organised the event to express their profound gratitude to the governor.
“We are saying thank you because although the administration has undertaken numerous projects, Port Harcourt Road stands out,” he said, adding that the rapid transformation in Aba had rekindled investor confidence and encouraged the return of businesses.
He praised the governor’s leadership and his prioritisation of citizens’ welfare.
The carnival convener, Mr Onyeka Udeaja, said the event was born out of the residents’ desire to express their appreciation to God for the city’s transformation.

“This carnival of praise is dedicated to God, who has answered our prayers for good governance. What we are seeing in Abia is evidence of divine intervention even those who were sceptical can now see the results,” Udeaja said.
He described the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road as one of the administration’s most outstanding achievements and urged the governor to remain resolute in fulfilling his mandate.
In goodwill messages, the former Transition Committee Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief David Onuoha, and businessman Chief Leo Okoye, described the road project as a legacy of Governor Otti’s administration, with potential to significantly boost Aba’s and the state’s socioeconomic development.
The Chairman of the Abia State Market Traders Association, Mr Alphonsus Odeigbo, lauded the rebuilding agenda, noting that it had enhanced the ease of doing business across the state.
Also speaking at the event, Victory Samuel, a student of Umuagbai Secondary School, thanked the government for rehabilitating Port Harcourt Road. He said the poor state of the road had disrupted school activities for nearly two decades, but its reconstruction had now brought an end to the suffering endured by students and staff.
