The German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) has launched a rebranded Climate Adaptation Business Alliance (CABA), a global network aimed at enhancing climate resilience to promote economic growth and social equity.

The alliance, inaugurated under the GIZ PrivABoo initiative of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Assist II project, marks a significant step towards private sector-driven climate resilience.

According to a statement from GIZ on Sunday in Abuja, the inauguration took place in Nairobi, Kenya, and was attended by climate innovators, investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs committed to making climate adaptation a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

The statement added that with this launch, Fiji, Rwanda, and Pakistan have joined the Africa-led initiative.

It noted that CABA’s global expansion reflects the growing consensus that climate adaptation is not merely a necessity but also a major economic opportunity. With strong leadership, innovative financing, and international collaboration, CABA aims to become a global catalyst for transformative action that benefits both vulnerable communities and the planet.

Suleiman Dikwa, the inaugural Executive Director of CABA, delivered a keynote address titled “From Local Resilience to Global Transformation,” explaining that CABA builds on the success of Green Sahara Farms in climate-affected regions of Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.

Dikwa further identified the initiative as promoting effective solutions such as flood-resilient infrastructure, drought-resistant agriculture, and nature-based community strategies.

“These models demonstrate how adaptation efforts can drive both economic growth and social equity. This is not a time for incremental change; we are leading a grand transition. Africa is not waiting to be rescued; we are actively shaping the economy the Earth needs—resilient, regenerative, and just,” he stated.

Dikwa outlined three strategic pillars guiding CABA’s mission: certification, policy reform, and investment mobilisation.

He explained that CABA’s mission focuses on establishing a globally recognised framework to certify credible climate adaptation enterprises, ensuring transparency, accountability, and protection against greenwashing. It also advocates for policy frameworks that value natural capital, encourage regenerative practices, and integrate resilience into national development strategies. Additionally, CABA aims to launch a climate adaptation deal flow platform to connect innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and community-based projects with impact-driven capital for scalable solutions.

The director mentioned that the alliance would form sectoral working groups, implement a 100-day action plan, and develop a roadmap for onboarding new countries and partners through 2026.

The alliance also appointed Denis Mijibi as its Executive Secretary, responsible for leading international collaboration, resource mobilisation, and strategic partnerships.
