Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation by extending broadband connectivity to 13 underserved institutions and communities across the country in 2025.
The initiative reinforces GBB’s position as the nation’s digital backbone and a key partner in national development.
According to Chidi Okpala, Head of Media and Corporate Communications at GBB, the expansion deliberately targeted locations within the organisation’s existing infrastructure reach, particularly institutions with strong potential for productive digital use but limited readiness for commercial engagement.
Through this effort, GBB continues to unlock opportunities, drive innovation, and support sustainable growth across critical sectors of the economy.
The expansion benefited three Federal Universities, two Local Government Areas, and eight Federal Secretariat buildings, strengthening digital capabilities in education and public administration while improving service delivery nationwide.
GBB also extended broadband connectivity to strategic landmarks, including Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to supporting infrastructure that fosters economic activity, mobility, and global connectivity.

These deployments underscore Galaxy Backbone’s determination to bridge the digital divide and empower institutions that shape Nigeria’s future. They also demonstrate the tangible impact of the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) and GBB’s infrastructure investments, reinforcing the organisation’s role as a reliable platform for government institutions and communities to build their digital future.
Importantly, the milestone shows that GBB’s work goes beyond technology, supporting education, governance, economic participation, and citizen engagement.
The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broadband penetration goals and complements programmes such as Project 774 – Universities’ Hostel Connectivity, ensuring coordinated, scalable, and sustainable national impact.
Commenting on the achievement, GBB stated that each new connection advances Nigeria toward a more inclusive digital economy while strengthening the infrastructure needed for innovation and competitiveness.
As deployment continues, Galaxy Backbone remains committed to expanding access, enhancing connectivity, and delivering on the vision of a fully digital nation, with further updates expected as subsequent phases progress.
