FRSC, Beer Sector Strengthen Drink-Driving Campaign

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) have strengthened their partnership with a renewed five-year agreement focused on reducing alcohol-impaired driving and improving road safety standards across Nigeria.

The renewed Memorandum of Understanding, signed at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja, sets out a framework for joint action between the regulatory agency and key players in the alcoholic beverage industry to tackle preventable road crashes linked to alcohol consumption.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and BSG Chairman, Thibaut Boidin, signed the agreement on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the presence of industry stakeholders and senior officials.

The Corps described the collaboration as a practical step toward addressing a major cause of road fatalities.

“This partnership reflects our shared responsibility to save lives on Nigerian roads through sustained awareness and enforcement,” the FRSC stated.

The agreement outlines expanded public education campaigns, nationwide sensitisation programmes, and behavioural change initiatives targeted at drivers who consume alcohol.

Under the arrangement, the FRSC will provide regulatory oversight and enforcement support, while the Beer Sectoral Group will leverage its industry networks to promote responsible drinking messages and discourage alcohol use before driving.

Both parties stressed that reducing drink-driving requires collective responsibility beyond government enforcement alone.

The initiative will be evaluated over the next five years based on its impact on crash reduction, public awareness levels, and compliance with road safety regulations.

Stakeholders at the signing ceremony included senior executives from Guinness Nigeria Plc, International Breweries Plc, and representatives of the Beer Sectoral Group and FRSC management.

The partnership is expected to contribute to broader national efforts aimed at improving road safety and reducing preventable loss of lives on Nigerian highways.
