Flamingos Arrive in Morocco for U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, on Wednesday ahead of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The team departed Abuja at 7:18 a.m. aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight and landed at 11:28 a.m. Nigerian time.

On arrival at Mohammed V International Airport, the players met former Super Eagles defender Taribo West, who was en route to France.

West urged the girls to remain disciplined and focused, encouraging them to represent Nigeria with pride and unity — remarks that drew applause from players and officials.

The team has since checked into their base at the Ibis Hotel in Casablanca, where they will stay for a few days before moving to Rabat.

They held a light training session on Wednesday evening to recover from jet lag and adapt to the weather. The session focused on ball movement, recovery, and coordination drills.

Team morale was high, with several players expressing excitement about competing on the global stage.

Nigeria is in Group D alongside Canada, France, and Samoa. The team’s opening match is scheduled for 19 October.

The Flamingos head into the tournament after playing 10 preparatory matches, scoring 44 goals without conceding any.

Nigeria finished third at the 2022 edition of the tournament.
