FIFA has officially lifted the suspension imposed on the Republic of Congo’s football federation, allowing the country to fully resume international football activities under the global governing body.

The suspension, which had barred Congo from participating in FIFA-sanctioned events and accessing development support, was lifted following satisfactory steps taken by the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) to resolve governance issues flagged by FIFA.

In a statement issued on Thursday, FIFA confirmed that the necessary reforms had been implemented, leading to the reinstatement of all rights and privileges of the federation.

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to lift the suspension of the Congolese Football Federation with immediate effect,” the statement read. This decision follows confirmation that the situation which led to the suspension has been fully addressed.”

The decision paves the way for Congo to return to international competitions and benefit once again from FIFA’s development programmes, including funding, training, and technical support.

The initial suspension was linked to government interference and administrative irregularities within the national football federation, which violated FIFA’s statutes on political neutrality and internal autonomy.

With the ban now lifted, FECOFOOT is expected to resume preparations for upcoming qualifiers and youth tournaments, and to work closely with both FIFA and CAF to strengthen its domestic structures.
