FCTA Workers Resumes Following Court Strike Suspension

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to bring more infrastructural development into the FCT health sector.

Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), made the pledge on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual Physicians Week organised by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), FCT chapter.

Fasawe said the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had demonstrated remarkable commitment to transforming the territory’s infrastructure, and assured that similar attention would be given to improving healthcare facilities and services.

She said the theme of this year’s Physicians Week, “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient,” and its sub-theme, “AI, Ethics, and the Physician’s Role in Modern Healthcare,” reflect the evolving nature of the health system and the need for innovation and ethical responsibility in service delivery.

Fasawe urged doctors to prioritise their own well-being, stressing that healthcare professionals must be physically and mentally fit to provide effective care to patients. She added that the FCTA was adopting digital tools to enhance policymaking, data collection, and overall efficiency in the health sector.

She further called on medical practitioners to uphold the highest ethical standards, emphasising that confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism were essential to strengthening the integrity of the medical profession.

Encouraging teamwork among healthcare providers, Fasawe advised younger doctors to learn from senior colleagues while also fostering interprofessional collaboration. “The senior doctors can also learn one or two things from the nurses they work with,” she noted.

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, represented by Prof. Sani Adamu, a Chemical Pathologist, commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for supporting the health sector and noted that the increasing adoption of technology in hospitals had improved efficiency.

“Most of our hospitals have been digitalised, which has made information retrieval faster and enabled doctors to easily access patients’ medical histories,” he said.

In his remarks, NMA-FCT Chairman, Dr Ayogu Emeka, highlighted the association’s progress over the past year through advocacy, partnerships, and collaboration with other professional bodies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders.
